Support Us
Baja Arizona Sustainable Agriculture (BASA) is a non-profit (501c3) Arizona corporation whose mission is to help create a local food supply in southern Arizona that is good for people, good for the environment and good for communities.
Our goal is to strengthen local food production and marketing by educating both producers and consumers.
With Your Help We Can:
- Increase access to fresher, healthier, safer and better tasting food.
- Spread the awareness of the importance of eating locally raised food that is produced in a manner that safeguards our health, agricultural lands and animals, local economies and communities, and the environment.
- Restore the sense of place and seasons that belongs in our food and the knowledge of desert foods relied upon by peoples in this region that came before us.
- Develop our "food shed" so our region can recover the ability to feed itself by redirecting its resources and efforts.
- Strengthen local and regional food economies by supporting local family farmers and ranchers so they can stay in business and thrive.
- Support, encourage and train local food producers and backyard growers.
- Celebrate the pleasures and pride of growing and harvesting our own food.
- Teach children where their food comes from and how to grow their own.
- Protect the natural beauty of our mountains and valleys by preserving farm and range lands.

Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are an extremely important part of our organization. We encourage you to contact us at valerie.mccaffrey@bajaaz.org so we can match your interests and skills with something we need help with. For example BASA can always use help with manning the information booth for a couple of hours at farmers markets or other events, directing people at organic field trips and garden tours, serving at tasting and cooking events, putting up event flyers, filing and grant writing. If you have growing experience and like to get your hands in the dirt, the Community Gardens Program needs people who would enjoy helping with community gardens at schools and elsewhere.
